Ransomware is scary; all of a sudden you get a pop up that your files have been encrypted and you have to pay a few hundred dollars to get them back. Most of the time you pay the money and don’t get your files back anyway. Its a disaster for a small business.

I have done a ton of research on how to prevent attacks, and clients following my four layer approach to PC security have built the best protection possible to avoid becoming a victim.

I seek out affiliate agreements with the companies I trust the most with my own data, and recommend them to my clients. I was recently accepted by two industry leaders in anti-malware and ransomware protection, F-Secure and Emsisoft. They both protected their users from the recent Petya ransomware attack. This video shows how Emsisoft, available either from the company at thisĀ affiliate link or as part of my managed monitoring service Acumen Advisor, protects you even if you click to bypass the threat at first:

When you’re dealing with your customer’s data, and the heart and soul of your business, it doesn’t make sense to play around with “free” anti-virus packages. Use a good quality, constantly updated anti-virus package like those from F-secure and Emsisoft.
